Starting a Podcast, or Not?
Posted by Hendry Lee in Podcast Marketing
Still thinking if podcasting is suitable for your business or otherwise?
Well, you are not alone. It happens everyday to many of us and it is entirely normal.
The problem is, having this question in your mind too long will render you unproductive. Procrastination doesn’t help.
Perhaps these few factors could be of some encouragements:
- Technology is available for everyone. You can even start a podcast for less than $20 if you don’t mind a bit of frictions here and there in quality and professionalism. You can always improve later. Afterall, there is no perfect podcast.
- Your competitions may not even know what it is. Having an early adopter advantage could help you get more listeners fast and leave your competitions behind.
- The ability to reach unique audiences. You can extend your reach outside of traditional marketing channels and get new streams of customers.
There are more reasons why marketers should start podcasting for their business.
Frankly speaking, it may not work for you yet. According to a recent study, majority of Internet users didn’t know what a podcast is. Unless your business revolve in an industry where the audience has a relatively high adoption of new technology, podcasting may or may not be the right choice for you.
How do you know? A bit of research can’t hurt and indeed compulsory. But, realize that you will never know for sure until you test.
Look, the barrier to entry is so low. The equipment is dirt cheap. Hosting cannot be lower — some free options are available.
So the best thing to do is: just do it.
If it isn’t what you expect, most of the time it is because podcasting is still in its infancy. You can stop anytime and continue when your audience is ready.
Be consistent in publishing. Stay on it for at least six months to a year. Keep fixing things and improve.
If you can get it work, when your competition realize about it, they maybe too late to compete with you.
