Podcast Hijacking Follow Up
Posted by Hendry Lee in Podcast News
Earlier this month I posted about Podkeyword hijacking podcaster’s feed and held it for ransom. But after reading about the case from PodKeyword, seems like that was not the case. No one ever hijacked Vegan.com feed. It was only a misunderstanding about the service.
Podkeyword is now in the process of updating the format of its interface to make it more user-friendly and understandable. The service republishes podcast feeds using related keywords subdomain. For example, a podcast about cooking will be republish as cooking.podkeyword.com.
Vegan.com authorize Podkeyword to republish the feed, but when the feed from Podkeyword is more popular than the original, it caused the problem. The ransom was an exaggeration of the fee needed to modify the service according to Vegan.com terms. A fee is required because the modification is not part of the agreement and require additional work from Podkeyword.
Advice for podcasters: do your due diligence before using a third party service. If you use services like FeedBurner, it may be a good idea to redirect an obvious URL to FeedBurner, which in turn burn the original feed URL.
I apologize for previous post.
