How to Build Your Own Budget Home Recording Studio
Posted by Hendry Lee in Podcast Equipment
So you want to build our own home recording studio? If so, You have come to the right place. In the course of the next few days, I am going to blog about a new article series specific to building a home audio studio for any purpose, including for your podcast.
Based on a survey to my newsletter subscribers last week, I am able to come out with some very specific and repetitive problems. Many of you, especially those who want to start their own podcast, can’t do so because the lack of recording studio equipment.
It is very common misconception to think that in order to build a moderately good quality home audio system, you have to invest on over $10,000 worth of hardware and software. There simply is nothing farther from the truth!
What can you expect in the upcoming article series?
I have a basic outline of what I am going to cover but things could be changed based on the feedback and other things.
Here are some of the topics I have in mind:
- Building a PC based home recording studio. Make use of your existing equipment!
- Sound cards or interfaces. Critical piece of hardware for every recording studio. How much to spend is acceptable?
- Type of microphones. Choose wisely and save time and money.
- Record like a professional. Use monitors. Choose your headphones or speakers.
- Stereo mixing board for multiple sources of voices and music.
- Audio recording software. You can get a decent but free recording studio software.
- Audio editing software. If you need mixing and editing, get the right tool.
- And at last, but not least, how to start promoting your recording by podcasting and online audio streaming.
Get excited yet? You should be.
Another critical thing to mention: building your own home recording studio comparable to those $50 an hour studio productions will highly depend on your requirement.
You can get away with $250 or even less if what you need is only basic sound recording and editing for your solo podcast.
The things are obviously different for those who need a music studio recording quality.
By all means, plan and spend wisely. There is nothing wrong with overspending all the studio equipment but then never use them, if you have extra cash. But a waste is still a waste.
I will see you in two days!
