Good Podcasts Start With This

What makes a good podcast?
A great podcast is the result of doing many small things right. If you are good at promoting a podcast, but the content is lousy, people are going to listen to it, perhaps for a few minutes and click unsubscribe.
On the other hand, great content without appropriate promotion won’t get your podcast anywhere. At least, the spread is not at the rate the podcast deserves.
So, what’s it the title I am talking about?
Let me elaborate.
The best way to understand what I am talking about is through involvement.
Imagine this…
What did you do when you were searching for a podcast?
In another occasion, what did you do before you decide to download a podcast episode or skip it?
If you were like me, you scan at the title of the podcast and episode. I know I am not alone, my sister is doing this too to quickly locate podcasts that particularly stand out from the crowd — that interest her.
Despite its power, audio has not yet become an independent tool for marketing. Textual information is still a critical substance every podcast should consider.
There may be situations — perhaps they are going to happen more frequently in the future — where other podcasters mention your podcast. Their listeners may subscribe to your podcast immediately and download all of your podcast audio to their portable media player, all without looking at the title and description of your podcast show.
In those cases, the podcasters may have done a very good work of soft-selling your podcast to their listeners.
But, I would say that is not happening very often, unless you have very special podcasts, or have set up the promotion explicitly.
Chances are, people still find your podcasts through textual links, podcast directories, and search engines. Even if they have subscribed to your podcast feed, they are going to glimpse before deciding which episodes to download.
My tip for this post is quite simple, but powerful. Think textual. There are many text components that build a podcast. They are still important for your podcast to get found. Don’t overlook this.
