Digital Podcast Releases Podcast Search Service

Digital Podcast launched the Digital Podcast Search Service, a new resource that allows developers to access Digital Podcast’s content and services in their favorite programming language.

To protect themselves from overload, they limit the queries per user and require registration of each application that uses these Application Programming Interface (API).

Digital Podcast imposes two technical requirements on usage of these services. First, we require that each application that uses these APIs be registered with us and assigned an Application ID. This Application ID must be sent with each request in the ‘appid’ parameter. Second, we limit the frequency by which any computer may access these services. These rate limits are currently set at 1,000 queries per user per day.

Digital Podcast also released a Software Development Kit (SDK) for the service, including PHP examples under BSD license.

I would expect to see many creative use of this very soon. How good is it to find podcasts? Will it be the next technology to index audio? To see a demo of web application that uses this service, visit Podcast Search Service Beta.
